🫘 Butter Bean Mash; Creamy, Protein-Packed Goodness!

Hey friends! Today I’m super excited to share one of my favorite side dishes Butter Bean Mash! It’s smooth, creamy, and full of flavor. Plus, it’s packed with protein and is way faster to make than regular mashed potatoes. I love how simple it is just toss everything into a food processor and blend away. Whether you’re having it with dinner or using it as a dip, this mash is a total win!

Method

Gather and Measure Ingredients

First, get all your ingredients ready. You’ll need 400g of butter beans, 30g of grated Parmesan cheese, 50ml of milk, a pinch of salt, and ¼ teaspoon of garlic powder. I used unsweetened soy milk, but if you want even more flavor, feel free to use regular dairy milk. Make sure to drain the butter beans well before starting this helps keep your mash from turning out too runny.

Add Everything to the Food Processor

Next, add all your ingredients into a food processor. This includes the drained butter beans, Parmesan cheese, milk, salt, and garlic powder. Try to spread the ingredients out evenly inside the bowl of the processor so they blend smoothly.

Blend Until Smooth and Silky

Now, it’s time to blend! Turn on your food processor and let it run until the mash becomes super smooth and creamy. This step usually takes about 2 minutes, depending on the power of your food processor. You may need to stop once or twice to scrape down the sides with a spoon or spatula so everything gets blended evenly. Don’t rush this part if you stop too soon, the mash might end up grainy instead of silky.

Choose How You Want to Serve It – Cold or Warm

You can enjoy the butter bean mash right away after blending. It’s already soft and tasty! But if you prefer it warm (which I usually do), you have a few easy options:

  • Microwave: Place the mash in a microwave-safe bowl and heat it for about 20–30 seconds.
  • Air Fryer: Scoop the mash into a heat-safe dish and warm it in the air fryer for about 1 minute.
  • Saucepan: Put the mash in a small pan and warm it on low heat while stirring gently.

As it heats up, you’ll notice the texture becomes even smoother and softer so satisfying!

Necessary Tools

  • Food processor (or blender if it’s strong enough)
  • Measuring spoons and a scale (optional, but helpful)
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Small pan, microwave, or air fryer (if you want it warm)

Ingredients

  • 400g butter beans (I used Bold Bean Co.)

  • 30g Parmesan cheese, grated

  • 50ml milk (I used unsweetened soy milk, but you can use regular milk for more flavor!)

  • Pinch of salt

  • ¼ tsp garlic powder

Directions

  • Add the butter beans, Parmesan cheese, milk, salt, and garlic powder into your food processor.
  • Blend until the mash is super smooth and creamy. Mine took about 2 minutes.
  • You can eat it right away, but if you want it warm, heat it up using one of these ways:
    Microwave for a few seconds
    Air fryer for 1 minute
Saucepan on low heat until warm

Notes

  • Don’t skip the blending time! If you don’t blend long enough, the mash will be grainy, not smooth.
  • Make sure to drain the beans well before using, or the mash might turn out too watery.
  • Add the milk a little at a time if you want to control how thick or thin the mash is.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve with grilled chicken, roasted veggies, or salmon
  • Use it as a spread for toast or wraps
  • Scoop it up with crackers or pita chips
  • Add it to a bowl meal with grains, greens, and your favorite protein

Fun Fact

Butter beans are also called lima beans! They’re full of fiber, iron, and plant protein so they’re not just tasty, they’re good for you too!
