Who says you can’t enjoy chocolate for breakfast? These baked protein oats are the perfect balance of sweet and healthy, making them a great way to start your day. With the goodness of oats, flaxseeds, chia seeds, and the rich flavor of chocolate, this breakfast will not only keep you full all morning but will also satisfy your sweet tooth. Trust me, once you make these, you’ll be craving them every day!

Method:

Preheat the Oven:

Begin by preheating your oven to 180°C (350°F). This will allow the oven to reach the right temperature for baking your oats. By the time you’ve prepared the mixture, your oven will be perfectly hot and ready to create a crispy, golden top for your oats.

Mixing the Ingredients:

In a mixing bowl, combine the oats, milk, chocolate protein powder, flaxseed, chia seeds, and cacao powder. Stir everything together thoroughly until all the ingredients are evenly distributed and well mixed. You should have a smooth, creamy mixture. The chia seeds and flaxseed will help thicken the oats while adding a nutritional boost, and the cacao powder will bring a rich chocolatey flavor to the base.

Preparing for Baking:

Once your mixture is ready, pour it into a baking dish or a cast iron pan. I prefer to use a cast iron pan for this recipe because it creates a lovely crispy, golden edge on the oats. You can also use any baking dish that’s similar in size. Spread the mixture evenly so that it bakes uniformly.

Baking the Oats:

Place the pan or dish in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the oats are golden brown and firm on top. The edges should be slightly crispy, and the center should be soft and baked through. Keep an eye on the oats while they bake to avoid overcooking them. You want a beautiful balance of texture crispy edges and a tender, moist center.

Melting the Chocolate:

While the oats are baking, break up the chocolate into small chunks and melt it gently. Place the chocolate in a bowl and set it over a pan of simmering water. This method of melting is called a double boiler. Be sure to stir the chocolate regularly to ensure it melts evenly without burning. The end result should be smooth, velvety chocolate that you can drizzle over the oats later.

Drizzling the Chocolate:

Once the oats are finished baking and slightly cooled, it’s time to drizzle the melted chocolate over the top. Pour the chocolate slowly to get an even coverage and allow it to soak into the oats. This step adds a rich, indulgent chocolate flavor that pairs perfectly with the hearty oats.

Topping with Strawberries:

Finally, slice your strawberries and arrange them on top of the oats. The fresh, juicy strawberries not only add a refreshing contrast to the warm, baked oats, but they also bring a burst of color to the dish. If you want extra sweetness, you can even drizzle a little more honey or maple syrup over the top.

Necessary Tools:

  • Oven
  • Mixing bowl
  • Cast iron pan (or baking dish)

Ingredients

  • 40g Chocolate & Love milk chocolate with caramelised hazelnuts and sea salt

  • 60g oats

  • 200ml milk (dairy or plant-based)

  • 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder

  • 1 tbsp flaxseed

  • 1 tbsp chia seeds

  • 1 tsp cacao powder

  • 80g strawberries (sliced)

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). This gets the oven nice and ready for our oats!
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the oats, milk, protein powder, flaxseed, chia seeds, and cacao powder. Stir until everything is well mixed.
  • Pour the mixture into a baking dish or a cast iron pan. I love using my cast iron pan because it makes everything so crispy and golden!
  • Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the top is firm and golden brown.
  • While the oats are baking, break up the chocolate and melt it slowly in a bowl over a pan of simmering water. This will give you a smooth, silky chocolate drizzle.
  • Once the oats are done, take them out of the oven and drizzle the melted chocolate on top.
  • Add the sliced strawberries and enjoy your delicious breakfast!

Notes

  • Watch the baking time: Every oven is different, so keep an eye on the oats as they bake. If you overbake them, they might become too dry. Aim for a golden brown top, but make sure they’re still soft inside.
  • Melt the chocolate carefully: Make sure the water in the saucepan is simmering, not boiling, to avoid burning the chocolate. Stir often to keep it smooth.
  • Serve fresh: These oats are best enjoyed warm, right after baking. If you store them, the chocolate may harden, and the texture will change a bit.

Serving Suggestions:

These baked protein oats are perfect on their own, but you can always get creative with your toppings! Try adding some banana slices, a dollop of peanut butter, or even a sprinkle of coconut flakes for extra flavor and texture. If you want more crunch, a handful of nuts like almonds or walnuts would be a great addition!

Fun Fact:

Did you know that oats are not just for breakfast? Oats are packed with fiber, which helps keep you full longer, and they’re also great for heart health. Adding chia seeds and flaxseeds boosts the omega-3 fatty acids, which are excellent for brain health. So, you’re not just eating something yummy you’re also fueling your body for the day ahead!

Conclusion:

Baked protein oats are the perfect blend of health and indulgence. Not only are they packed with nutrients to keep you energized throughout the morning, but they also bring a touch of chocolatey goodness to your breakfast. Whether you’re preparing for a busy day or just want a quick, satisfying meal, this recipe will become your go-to. Give it a try and enjoy a breakfast that’s both delicious and nutritious!
