Hi friends! Today Iām sharing one of my favorite plant-based meals Lentil Burgers! These are super easy to make and full of flavor. Theyāre soft on the inside, a little crispy outside, and they taste amazing with a creamy yogurt-tahini sauce. No fancy tools needed just a bowl, fork, and pan!
Method
Mash the Lentils
First, take your can of green lentils and drain all the water. Pour the lentils into a medium bowl. Now, use a fork to mash them really well. You donāt need to make it super smooth, but try to mash most of the lentils so they turn soft and pasty. This step is super important because mashed lentils help hold the patties together.
Add Dry Ingredients
Next, itās time to add all the dry ingredients. Put in your oat flour (you can make this by blending oats until soft like powder), grated Parmesan cheese, chopped coriander, cumin, garlic powder, pepper, and salt. These will add flavor and help the patties stick together.
Add Water and Oil
Now pour in 2 tablespoons of water and 1 tablespoon of oil. These liquids help make the mix smooth and easy to shape. Stir everything together using a spoon or your clean hands until the mix is well combined. It should feel like soft dough. If itās too dry, you can add a tiny bit more water just be careful not to make it runny.
Shape into Patties
Once your mix is ready, itās time to shape the burgers. Use your hands to form small patties. You should be able to make around five. Press them gently so they stay firm but donāt fall apart. Make sure they are all about the same size so they cook evenly.
Cook in a Pan
Now heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat and add a little bit of oil. When the pan is hot, place the patties in gently. Let them cook on one side until it turns golden brown, then flip carefully using a spatula. Cook the other side the same way. This should take about 4 to 6 minutes per side. Donāt rush let them get nice and crispy on the outside.
Make the Sauce
While the patties are cooking, you can make the sauce. In a small bowl, add 2 tablespoons of thick yogurt, 1 teaspoon of tahini, ½ teaspoon of garlic powder, and a pinch of salt. Mix it all together until itās smooth and creamy. This sauce is fresh, tangy, and goes perfectly with the lentil burgers.
Let the Patties Cool a Bit
When the patties are done cooking, take them off the heat and let them cool for a few minutes. This step helps them firm up so they donāt break apart when you serve them. It also makes them easier to eat.
